Is there a difference between Mace and Pepper Spray?
Mace is not to be confused with pepper spray. Both are perceived biases. Mace is a brand of security defense sprays created by Mace Security International, which is a registered brand.
What is the purpose of pepper spray, and how does it work?
As one of the most often used self-defense tools, it's critical to properly understand how to use pepper spray. Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent, whereas tear gas (CS and CN) is an irritant. As a result, the assailant's eyes immediately clamp shut, they are overcome with uncontrollable coughing, temporary blindness sets in, breathing becomes restricted (leaving only enough breathing for life support). The attacker is then left in pain for at least 30 minutes and up to an hour after contact with the eyes and nasal cavities.
The respiratory system is attacked by pepper spray, which causes the lining of the throat to expand and limit airflow, leaving barely enough breathing for life support. When the capillaries in the eyes dilate, the eyelids slam shut.
The capsaicin in peppers causes mucous membrane inflammation, resulting in tears, coughing, and a burning sensation on exposed skin. The eyes become bloodshot when the pupils dilate, resulting in temporary blindness. The victim generally rubs their eyes in response to the discomfort, which aggravates the situation. The tear ducts can't get rid of capsaicin since it's oil-based (only another oil-based item, such as milk or baby oil.
Is there a difference between TASERs and Stun Guns?
TASERs, while sometimes mistaken for stun guns, are pretty different. The main difference between the two is that the stun gun is a direct-contact weapon that the stun gun could use to an offender's body to be effective. At the same time, the TASER, on the other hand, fires small barbed probes into a person's central nervous system when they make contact.
Pepper spray or stun guns: which is more effective?
We prefer pepper spray over the stun gun at Stun & Run Self Defense. Pepper spray, unlike a stun gun, does not require pain cooperation to be successful. It works on anybody, regardless of their state (e.g., intoxicated, deranged, and/or drugged), requires no direct contact, and just one spray is needed to knock down an attacker.
Combining the two, in addition to self-defense combat methods, is always a good idea. The most efficient method is to spray pepper spray, use a stun gun to disable the attacker, and follow up with a proper kick, punch, or grapple to hold them down. To get the best results, we always recommend using at least a combination of self-defense techniques with a stun gun or pepper spray (do not always rely on just the product itself to protect you, as this can backfire).
